Past/Present/Future Tense

Following the break-up of indie rock band Zoe From London, Craig Burton and Ed Hammond decided to form an acoustic duo under the name of Mechanical Sunrise.

The band was originally conceived as an experimental project to try and create live, acoustic trance. However, this soon fell by the wayside and the two found their musical output naturally progressed to a more traditional song writing style (though the songs they ended up writing were still rather unorthodox in nature.)

All this changed, however, when a friend asked them to play at his birthday party. Ed and Craig decided to kick it up a gear and create a special one-off full-electric set. Somehow, this then snowballed into what can only be described as a time-travelling, dimension-hopping space opera, complete with B-movie video and strange 2001-esque visuals.

It was a night to remember. So much so, that the decision was made to pack up their acoustic instruments and head exclusively in a new electronic direction. With the addition of Will Ferguson on bass, the band was now complete. In early 2010, after a winter of furious song writing, Mechanical Sunrise 2.0 was unleashed upon the world.

With A mixture of sci-fi porn synth, fuzz-rock guitars, funky bass-lines and unrelenting electro drums, their new direction has proved to be a hit with fans old and new. Towards the end of the year, the band plan to take a break from playing live to begin recording their debut album The Difference Engine.
